The mission of LoveShine is make a difference in the lives of individuals recoving from life-changing burn injuries. We provide a variety of resources to both pediatric and adult patients to aid in adjustment to hospitalization and to decrease distress during painful medical procedures and wound care. LoveShine will partner with Burn Centers across the country to achieve this goal.
LoveShine was founded in 2023 by Ava Sigmund, a high school student who was inspired to make a difference after witnessing the impact that volunteering and simple acts of kindness can have in the lives of others.
She developed the name and logo to reflect the mission of the organization.
The logo itself and the word "Shine" quietly reflect the bright light of a flame, while the name represents the positive opportunities that can come from even the most difficult of experiences.
"LoveShine has contributed to the UW Health Burn Center in greater ways than through just donating items. Our burn patients have confirmed that they have found great relief in their long hospital days due to being provided distraction items that meet their individual interests. For example, the team learned that a patient who was struggling with their recovery enjoyed painting at home as a hobby, and the painting supplies donated by LoveShine brought them comfort and joy. Other patients have found that being able to access on-demand television through the FireSticks donated by LoveShine helped them during and after a long day of difficult procedures. We are grateful for the opportunity to assist our patients in this way ."
